TEE CHRISTIAN WORLD. With hand upon his swelling breast His sword the Frenchman draws, And lunges at his foeoian's heart In honor's sacred cause. While Prussia grimly lies in wait, Makes trebly sure her posts; And, lifting up her saintly eye, Invokes the " Lord of Hosts." America, where chiefly dwell Religion, virtue, peace, -Sends Sheridan to learn how best War may be made to cease. Britain, "Defender of the Faith," While standing meekly by, Gives to the " new commandment" force By " armed neutrality." And Christian lands all round prepare, Whilst 'changing friendly words, To beat their pruning-hooks to spears, Their ploughshares into swords. * * * * Angels look down with pitying eye From peaceful realms above; But scoffers with derision cry, " See how these Christians love!
