WELLINGTON.

Thursday, Dec. 8. Epuni, an old friendly chief at the Hutt, is dead, and will be buried by the Government tomorrow. The Banks and offices in Wellington will be closed. The Volunteers v-ill proceed to the burying place by the s.s. Rangatira. Several old Wellington settlers will act as pall bearers. Epuni, for the h«st 30 years, has been the staunch friend of the settlers, and was much respected. The Evening Post of yesterday havving referred to the charge of stolen telegrams, the Independent' of this morning calls on the Press Association to go on with the case or make an abject apology.
