Commercial Intelligence

WELLINQTON. The Wenington Independent, I)ep. 3, says ? We report no improvement in the town trade during the past month, and although a fair amount of business has been done with the put-stations in the country for supplies, the gloom that h?s for so long overhung our mercantile prospects seems rather on the increase than otherwise. Three comparatively large failures have oocurred, which, joined to other unfavorable rumors, have not tended to improve our posilion or diminish the feeling of distrust that pervades the community, and all transactions are limited to immediate wants and kept within the smallest compass. There have been no arrivals from home during the months, and stocks are consequently to some slight extent redpced, but so little business is doing that our quotations are in a great measure only nominal, owing to the difficulties of effecting sales. The Halcione wants about 800 bajes to complete her cargo, and wiU sail about the 15th inst. The Electra has commenced loading for London. The Estrella, hourly expected from Auckland, will be laid pn for London by Mess's. Johnston and Co., and as the greater portion of her cargo is in store, ready for shipment, she will meet with quick despatch. We are glad to find that ■ome action has at length been taken that will tend tp keep freights on a balance with other ports. The Melita wil} in al} probability be jaid on for London. She is expected about jhe middle of the month. HP—*—*'—■— ———■■—^—«^—. I. t '
