About 25 miles of bush requires to be felled 1 chain wide, and a roadway cleared and stumped of 20 feet. The Worjc will be let in contracts of 2 to 3 miles as hereinafter described, viz. : No. I.—From the entrance of the JUanawatu Bush, at Takapau, to the Makotoku stream, about 2J miles No. 2.—Fi-om Makotoku stream to Mangatewai-iti, about 2 miles , No. 3.—From Mangatewai iti to Mangatera, about 2J miles No. 4.—From Mangatera to Taho* raiti, about 3 miles No, s.—From Tahoraiti to Matahiwi, about 1£ miles No, 6.—From Matahiwi towards the Manawatu Gorge, 2 miles more or less No. 7.—2 miles more or less from No. 6 contract towards Manawatu Gorge No. 8.—2 miles more or less from No. 7 contract towards Manawatu Goige No. 9.—2 miles more or less from No. 8 conti act Exact limits of Contracts Nos. 6 and 9 inclusive will be fixed after survey.
