The Evening Post understands that Si Charles Clifford intends to return to New Zea land on a visit, and will probably accompany Dr. Featherston from England., An amusing fight (says the Southern Cross tpok place the other day in Melbourne be tween a Qerman and a Frenchman. Th cause of the quarrel was that the Frenchmai had named his dog Bismarck, and used perti naciously to take him for daily visits to i pa/e devoted almost entirely to Teutonic re freshment, where he also used to seize ever opportunity for using the following language -<-" Fenez id [come here"], Bismarck, yoi %acre tief, you come here." For some day the proud dwellers on the Ehine stood it, bu pn the day mentioned their patience had ap parently reached its limit, for as the word: *' seme tief" came hissing out of the French man's mouth, a huge German rushed at hia and proceeded to take vengeance for the insul peered to his country. But the French max was quite as ready, and a battle royal tool place, in which Mr Bismarck deliberately turned traitor, and assaulted the calves of th< Qerman with a ferocity that would have doni to a Turco. Eventually, after the G-er man had been tumbled into a soda-water bath and the Frenchman's hat caved in twice, th< police were called in and the combatants re moved, Bismarck growling defiance at Unite( Germany to the \a|t.
