HAWKE'S BAY PROVIDENT, LAND, BUILDING, AND INVESTMENT SOCIETY. Mr Fisher's Commercial Circular of this morning contains the following reference to this Society:— "In our advertising columns will be found to-day an advertisement of * The Hawke's Bay Provident, Land, Building, and Investment Society,' which, it appears, has been in existence one year, and which, though slow in its progress at starting, has, it seems, proved very successful. Several industrious parties have obtaiued good residences through the Society's funds, and besides an actual profit of about 6s per share the-business already doue will produce interest alone during the next year of a profit of 10s per share, besides that of the year's business, which of course will far exceed that of the first year. Thus it will be seen, even as an investment of savings only, how much more profitable these societies are than the Savings Banks, in which the interest at the end of the first year on the same amount as the cost of one share would amount to 3s 3d only." [By a typographical error in the Circular, the word " businesses " was unfortunately substituted for "residences" in the ninth line.]
