Thursday, Nov. 24. The Diocesan Synod closed its proceed ings yesterday. Bishop Hadfi eld's charge, which occupies five columns of the Independent of . this morning, states that the Irish Church has been reconstituted on the model of the New Zealand Church ; that Bishop Selvvyn twenty years ago prophesied its disestablishment j that Hauhausareoniy dissenters —not apostates ; that they are seeking readmission to the Church, and that they hail his (the Bishop's) elevation to the Episcopate as a pledge of peace between the two races. The Rev. Arthur Stock, of Wellington, was appointed Archdeacon. At the Hutt last night Mr William Fitzherbert addressed a meeting of the electors. During the course of hi* remarks ho said that he was bound to support the Ministerial policy, because it was his own. The hon. gentleman made a long defence of the Weld Minify, and objected to the, iinancial re lations with the Provinces as likely to destroy the unity of the Colony; he also objected to the ,£50,000 for road boards.—TJie meeting adjourned for a week in order to hear Mr Ludlam's views,
The Genera! Government have advanced to the Provincial Government money to pa}' police and other servants arrears of pay. The Provincial Council meets tomorrow.
