E. G. Richardson, (agent) The ketch reported last evening as having arrived in the Bay proved to be the Excelsior, ipapt. Dick, from Dmiedin, with a very heavy pargo. She left Dunedin on the 4th inst., and had variable winds with heavy weather until passing Cape Palliser on Thursday last, 10th inst. From thence to port light N.E. winds and calms. The clipper ship Challenger, in command of Capt. Lovell, (who, it will be remembered by of our readers, visited this port in the barque Sunbeam several years ago), brought up in the Bay at a late hour last night. She left Nchon at noon on Saturday last, ]2th inst. Had light winds and variable crossing Blind Bay. Ran through Cook's Straits on Sunday : afternoon with the wind from N.W.

From Cape Palliger to port light and variable winds were experienced. Brought up in the Bay at 12 o'clock last night, and was made fast to thff Government mooring 3 this morn ing.—We are informed that the Challenger will not, as expected, lo«d wool at this port. On dischai'ge of inward cargo, she will proceed to Callao.

Owing to the prevailing calm, at the port last night, the cutter Mahia, which we reoorted as having left for Waimarama, could not. get out of the Bay ; and, this morning, entered the Iron Pot. She will now be engaged in lightering the Challenger. What little cargo the Mahia had in will probably be taken on to Waimarama in the Three Brothers. The Colonial Government p.s. left Wellington for this port at half-past 8 o'clock last night. The schooner Banshee, we learn, may be expected here in a few days from the Bay of Islands with a cargo of coal consigned to Messrs. Watt Brothers.

The ketch Mary Ann Hudson sailed for Wairoa last night, but owing to the prevailing calm she was still in sight of the port up to noon to-day. It will be seen from an advertisement in another column that the s.s. Bangatira will leave for Wellington on Friday, 18th instant, returning thence on or about the 23vd hist.— The Ea-gatira left Wellington for this port at 12 20 p.m. to-day.

The schooner Three Brothers has been taken off the berth for Mangakuri. She will now proceed to Waimarama in lieu of the Mahia, and will probably get away to-night.

The schooner Hero is expected to take her departure to-night with a general cargo for Arapawanui and Wairoa.

We understand that the s.s. Keera may not be expected here for some days, as she was to make a trip from Auckland to Mahia and back before coming on to this port. We have heard it stated that a ship at present at Auckland —other than the Asterope — will visit Hawke's Bay this season for the purpose of loading with wool for the English market.
