We (Evening Post) are informed that a well-known individual in this city was to-day served with a writ for £I,OOO, at the suit of an equally we|i-known auctioneer, who claims that sum as damages for slander and defamation of character. The same parties reocntly appeared before the Resident Magistrate in a similar relation as ptyiutiff defendant in an action for commission. The Kelson Examiner is informed that his Honor the Superintendent, acting upon the advice of the Executive Council, hae written to the Greneral Government asking whether they will be willing Jo support a loan of £60,000 for the Province of Nelson, to be ap« portioned as follows—£3o,ooo for a rajhyay from the Brunner coal mine to %he port; £15,000 for gas ;. and £15,00Q for the exteusrsn bt the vvwUi-works.
