Bank Holiday,— To-morrow, being the Prince of Wales' birthday, will be obser\ed as a bank holiday. A Kiple Match between twelve members of the Napier .Rifle Club and twelve Wellington Volunteers will, it is understood, take place to-morrow. We trust the weather may prove favorable. The Asterope's Cargo.—We have been favored by Messrs. Watt Brothers with the following list of the ship Asterope's cargo for this port! — 35 packages, 52 cases, Stuart and Co ; 1 qr-cask, J. HJiodes; 1 case, Abrahams j ,2 bales, 3 cases. 13 packages, order ; 4 bales, J. Harding; 2 cases, 2 packages, as addressed ; 65 casks, Kinross and Co j 2 packages, J. VV. Q-Owing; 1 box, A. Tux ford ; 3,273 packages and pieces, ,160 pieces, 50 cases, Watt Bros. We have received a copy of the 18th report of the directors of the Bank of New Zealand, some reference to which has already been made in our telegiaphic items from Auckland. We quote the following abstract of the past half year's operations:— Net Profits for half-year ...£37,233 2 8 Balance frpm last half-year ... 8,013 811 Giving available for Division ... 45,314 11 7 Which it is proposed to appropriate as follows— Dividend £25,000 0 0 Bonus of 5s per share ... 12,500 0 0 Balance to next half-year ... 7,745 11 7 £45,215 11 7 Sudden Death.—A case of the above nature took place on the Spit to-day. The deceased was a man well advanced in years, a Swede by birth, and was employed as a waiter a r t the Commercial Hotel ; his name, we believe, was Peter Johnson. . This morning, after taking a dose of salts, he suddenly fell down, and in less than ten minutes had breathed his last, An inquest on the body will, we learn, be held to-morrow morning.
