The Nelson Evenins Mail, Oct. 24, says : Mr A. S.'Collins, M H.R., met his constituents at Collingwood last week, on which occasion the room was crowded. At the conclusion of bis speech a vote of confidence in him was unanimously passed, and a very general desire expressed that he should represent the district in the next Parliament. Mr Collins replied that he had not } r et made up his mind whether he should seek a aeafc in the House of Representatives, but that if he did so, nothing would give him greater pleasure than to be sent there by his old constituents. Mr Taylor, chief officer of the English ship Warrior Q.ueen, fell overboard during that vessel's homeward pass ige from Otago. The Elizabeth Fleming, an.iron ship of some 800 tons, owned by Patrick Henderson and Co., of Glasgow, a well-known trader to Otago, has been burned near Madeira on her voyage from Glasgow to Rangoon. An old man named Charles Samuel Cave, residing near Richmond, died Bomewhat suddenly, on Oct. 25, about two o'clock in the afternoon. Cave, who although seventy two years of age followed his trade as a cooper, was at work in his shop at a short distance from his residence, when his wife heard him call her by name. On going to see what he wanted, she found the old man lying on the shavings. In a few brief words he spoke of his approaching death and the succour his son would render his mother, and then expired. An inquest was held on the body, and a, verdict of "Died from natural causes," was' given. This is the third old settler in the Waimeas who has died within the last few weeks. Mr Eyles, aged 80, living within half a mile of the Cave, and Mr Curran, of Wakefield, of the same ripe age. —Nelson Examiner. Several cases of trichinosis have oocurred on board the German immigrant ship Victoria which lately arrived at Hobart Town, the captain, two mates, cook, and a young girl who was an intermediate passenger, having b.en attacked by this disease. The captain states it as his belief, that he and his fellow were infected by eating of a ham which was on board. The Canterbury Press, 15th Oct., says : By a private letter received from Wellington we learn that it is probable a Permissive Bill will be brought into the Assembly next session by the Hon the Premier, and that a vigorous effort will be made to support the movement by the various Temperance Societies and others throughout New Zealand. ,
