Saturday, Oct. 22. The weather to-day has been fine, but was very unsettled during the past week. There is little business doing, confidence not having, as yet, been restored. Breadstuff's are quiet. The demand for flour has been very slack, .£l2 10s per ton being the highest- quotation, and that for twenty-five ton parcels. There is no \yheat offering. Oats are steady at from 3s 6d to 3s Bd. Maize firm at 4s 3d to 4s 4Jd. The wool sales have not yet commenced. Wool has commenced to arrive from the stations. ' * Several sales of kerosene have taken place lately. Downer's, 2s 3Jd. Two vessels arrived yesterday, adding 18,000 cases to present stocks. 250 cases were shipped by the Omeo for the New Zealand market. Tlie sugar market is firm. The Witch arrived yesterday from Mauritius, with dates "to 13th Sept. Reports the only vessel on the berth for Australia was one for Dunedin and Lyttelton. The Sea Nymph had sailed for Melbourne with a very small cargo. Brandies vory firm. Enerads new tea auction room has been opened. The Opera troupe have sailed for Sydney, after giving three very successful performances in Melbourne. The Duke of Edinburgh will land here this afternoon, on a visit from Sydney. Ship Anglesey arrived from Plymouth after a smart run of sixty-eight days. Entries for the Spring meeting are very numerous ; thirty-four accepted for the Cup. "" Croydon is the top favourite, but there are about a dozen other horses considered dangerous. Manuka is in capital form, though with but few backers,
