A drunken ship-carpenter named Crouch waa found one evening recently bj a policeofficer, completely stripped of his clothes, in *>ne of the streets of London, and announcing to the bystanders that he was readv to fight all the Prussians. He was fined £3 for his mad freak. As an instance of the spirit which animates the German nation, it may be mentioned that Oppenheimer and Co., bankers, of Cologne, subscribed 1,000,000 thalers towards the relief oi the wounded soldiers of the German army. The Mayor of Eipon has arranged with the Cathedral dignitaries, the clergy of the city, and the ministers of all denominations, to have collections at their several places of worship on the 21st August, in aid of the fund for the relief of the sick and the wounded in the war now raging on the continent of Europe ; ulso that subscription lists will be placed at the banks in the eity to receive donations from parties unable to attend the services. A young man named Peter Glasgow, clerk in the Adjutant-General's office, London, committed suicide in a cab by poisoning himself, as he was be driven the other evening to an address which he had given the cabman. A short time ago he had a quarrel with his wife, and she had since refused to live with him. A Glasgow paper states that two representatives of the Board of Trade have visited the Tarious ship-building yards on the Clyde, with the view of ascertaining whether any work was in progress of a compromising character in connection with the continental war.
