NEW ZEALAND STATISTICS.
The total number of vessels cleared inwards in 1859 was 764, with a tonnage of 250,731, compared with 1888, there was a failing oil of 87 vessels and 26,374 tons; outwards clearances show a similar decrease, and amounted to 771 in 1869 compared with 773 in 1888, and the falling off in tonnage was 39,946. At the taid of 1860, the colony owned 381 vessels, with a tonnage of 25,990; distributed as follows :—Auckland, 181 vessels of 10,113 tonnage; Wellington, 24 vessels of 1,896 tonnage ; Napier, 8 vessels of 384 tonnage ; Nelson, 25 vessels of 1,167 tonuage; Lyttelton, 66 vessels of 4,772 tonnage; Dunedin, 69 vessels of 7,461 tonnage; and Invercargill, 8 vessels of 217 tonnage. The value of imports of the colony during 1869, was £4 976,126, as compared with £4,985,748 iu 1868, being a decrease of £9.622, or about one-fifth per cent. The following table exhibits the increase or decrease in each province:—Auckland, £563,158 inc., or 70.25 percent.j Weilington, £146,801 dec, or 23.58 percent. ; Hawke's Bay, £3,092 inc„ or 4 per cent.; Nelson, £87,535 dec, or 18.26 per cent.; Marlborough, £8,840 dec, or 59.13 per cent.; Canterbury, £63,117 dec, or 10.34 per cent.; Westland, £109,939 dec, or 17-16. per cent.; Otago, £138,151 dec, or 8.42 per cent.; Southland, £23,211 dec, or 15.61 per cent.
