The Napier Rifle Volunteer Band announce a picnic to be held on the race course, Meanee, on the Ist Nov. Chatham Islands.—The s.s. Wainui is to leave Dunedin for the Chatham Islands on the Ist November. Departure.—Mr and Mrs Woodrolfe, the celebrated Glassblowers, left for Wellingtoa this afternoon, in the Rangatira. Postal.—We are informed by the Chief Postmaster that the Californian mails leave Wellington on the 3rd November, and Auckland on the 7th. We received a telegram from Wellington as we were going to press this afternoon. It must hold over till lom or row. Open Air Concert. —The Napier Rifle Volunteer Band will give their first open air conceit in the grounds attache.! to the Government Buildings, to-morrow afternoon, commencing at 5 o'clock. Resident Magistrate's Court.— This morning the following cases came before the Resident Magistrate:— M'Dermott v. Focett. Claim for £l3 155., wages as ostler. It was disputed whether lie had been engaged by defendant at the rate of .£1 or £\ 5s per week (with board.) Judgment for £l l 6s, with 18s costs. — Maroney v. Focett. A claim of £Q 14s 2d. Debt admitted, and judgment given for amount claimed and 13s cosis.
