The weekly Napier Rifle Volunteer parade was held last evening, when the porps was examined in judging distances. At the close of the parade, \\, meeting of the members was held in the Masonic Hall to arrange certain business connected with the company, It was notified that ball firing would commence this morning at 6 30, and would continue every Tuesday and Thursday.at the same hour. A Volunteer picnic was arranged to take place in Sturm's paddock on the Ist November, the company to be in uniform. A committee was appointed to make the necessary arrangements. A reunion was also decided upon, to take place on the last Wednesday in November. Resident Magistrate's Court. — Yesterday, the case of Moloney \. Maqarthy was settled out pf Court; \he cross action, Macarthy v. Maloney, was dismissed, This mornings Thomas George was brought up, charged vith wandering about the streets last night about 11.30, apparently of unsound mind.—Remanded for seven days. Ominous native news comes from Auckland. Raglan advices to the (Southern Cross report that the king natives have warned off Mr Moore, who has been for some time past in charge pf the Wesleyan chapel at Aotea. The same letter says that the natives in the district are engaged making a \arge number of war canoes. The fetter warns the Government that vigijajftce \$ necessary,
We are requested by the Rev. R, Taylor to announce that lie intends holding. Divine Service at Wallingford at 10 a.m., and at Porapgahau at 3 p.m., on Sunday, the 30th inat. Our telegraphic agent in Auckland •writes under date Sept. 15:—"The Hamburg schooner Sawai has arrive'l in the Manukau from the Navigator group, having come in to escape capture by French cruisers." The Daily Gross, of the 17th inst., however, contains the following : "We are requested to state that the schooner Sawai, which arrived in the Manuka n on Friday evening, did not run in to escape capture by French cruisers, but £o obtain late news from Europe."
