The ketch Why Not—the arrival of wliioh vessel we briefly mentioned last eTening—iett Napier at 10 p.m. on Tuesday, 11th inst., with light variable winds, Which continued until arrival off Wairoa at 10 a-ro. on Thursday ; crossed the bar at 4 p.m. the same day; discharged cargo on Friday, and on Saturday ■went down the river aud ballasted ; left Wairoa at 6.30 a.m. on Monday (yesterday), and arrived here at,3.30 p.m. the same day.' Experienced E.iN.E. wind, with nasty roll from the s»uthward. —The Why JNot is again on the berth for Wairoa. The schooner Hero— having arrived at Wairoa from this port, and discharged a portion of her cargo—had sailed for Mohaka previous to the Why JNot's arrival at Wairoa. The schooner Three Brothers was, when the Why Not left yesterday morning, lying at the Wairoa heads, waiting for an opportunity to get out of the river. The s.s. Lord Ashley, from the North, may be locked for to morrow, and will meet with guick despatch for Southern Porta.
The s.s. Keora cleared at the Customs this niorning, with a full cargo of sheep and cattle for the Auckland market, and several passengers ; and punctually to the advertised hour o'clock) steamed from the wharf at which she had been berthed. In attempting to cross the bar, however, she bumped heavily, and >vas put back. Another and another attempt to cross was made, but all to no purpose ; and finally she was again moored to the wharf, {here to remain until to-morrow afternoon, when, we understand, another (and we hope sucoessiul) effort will be made to get to sea. lb is a fortunate circumstance that the Keera did not stick fast on the bar for any length of time, as at intervals heavy seas broke across, and would, without a doubt, have done the steamer serious injury. A boat the Keera had in tow was capsized, and had its bow stove in—probably by bumping against the Vessel's side. We have been fuvored by Messrs. Kinross and Co., agents of the ship Challenger, with a copy of the manifest of her Napier cargo, vhi.: —22 cases, order ; 1 case, T. B. Harding ; 2 packages, J. \V.
