Hawke's Bay Times. Nullius addictus jurare in verba magistri. THURSDAY, OCTOBER 13, 1870.
The question of the influence of the present European war upon tlie ruing nax industry of this Colony is one of very great importance, and it was one of the first items of English commercial news to which general attention was directed on the arrival of the late mail Via Marseilles. The intelligence of its continued depreciation in tho Home market was only confirmatory of our fears; but we find, somewhat to our surprise, that in the European Mail the "Anglo-Australian" writes that i'the war has had no effect on the material" This differs somewhat from the statement we gave yesterday from (]ie Circular published \>y the Hew Zea<
land Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, which informs us that ''the war js having considerable adverse influence, as the Continental demand has entirely ceased. ,? We g've the two statements a* we find them in the news to hand, hoping that, however the fact may be, an early mail will bring us more cheering news relative to the prospects of this industry.
