The New Zealand Herald of the 20th says.: 7-rA gentleman was very nearly being taken to the Thames yesterday against his will, the steamer (the Williams] liavnjg made a stayt from the wharf while he was. engaged in earnest conversation with, a friend. As she was passing the square buoj, not far from the end of the outer T, the man made a leap upon and succeeded in released by a passing boat. The adventure was, however, a very dangejous one. The Evening Post, under date Sept. 2JJ, raVB -—We have been shown the plans and specifications of a new flax-dressing machine, the invention of Mr Wm. Toogood, of this city, who has applied for a patent. The prmc.ple is ingenious and apparently sound in, theory, while the machine itself is simple and. inexpensive. Sample's of flax dressed by a, small and imperfect model seem to promise the production of an excellent fibre when machine of full power is used.
