Inquest.—An investigation was held to-day at Mr Caldwell's Hotel, West Olive, before T. Hitchings, Esq., Coroner, to inquire into the origin of the late fire which destroyed Paora Torotoro's house. The inquiry was considered necessary on account of certain hints by the natives that the fire was the work of some European. However, on depositions being taken in proper form, the witnesses could show no reason for such an opinion. Through the courtesy of the Coroner, we have been furnished with a copy of the evidence, which we are compelled to hold over till to morrow. The jury returned a verdict to the effect that there was no evidence to show how the five originated.
