Military.—The Wellington correspondent of the Otago Daily Times say* :—" It is rumoured that the Volunteers and Militia in both Islands are to be placed on a war footing." The Weather during the last day or two has been very inclement. Strong winds —vetoing from S.E. to S.W.—have prevailed; and a considerable quantity of rain has fallen. There was a heavy sea in the Bay on Tuesday and yesterday morning, but it has now fallen greatly. We are still without our English Mail via San Francisco. Doubtless had the weather been more favorable during the last few Jays, we should have been placed in possession of it ere this time. Independent Order of Rechabjtes.—A meeting of the local tent was held in the tent room on Tuesday evening. The weather was very unfavorable, but the attendance of members was good, and three new brethren were added to the order.
Missing.—We regret to report that there is now little hope of any further intelligence of Mr Bruce being obtained. A telegram has been received by his friends in Napier to the effect that the diligent search which was instituted having proved fruitless, it had been abandoned.
