The Fijis appear to be attracting considerable notice in the other colonies as a field for settlement. Former advices brought the intelligence of vessels laid on from Melbourne, for the conveyance of passengers, and from a paragraph in another column of this morning's issue, it will be seen that the steamer Auckland was to leave for this port, from Sydney, en route for Fiji, on the 27th inst. From all that we have heard, that group of islands is rapidly rising in importance, and will soon assume a great position in this hemisphere. Already Auckland is intimately connected with the Fijis by her trade, and we hope that our merchant* will neglect nothing that can conduce to knit the golden band more closely. The. position of Auckland places her in a favour* able position as far as this important trade is concerned, and it will be the fault of her people if she is cut out by any Australian enterprise. Tne Fijiaus themselves have declared themselves decidedly in favour of this port as their medium of commerce, and this feeling should be fostered and encouraged in every possible way. We learn from Melbourne advices that th© steamer Alhambra had been laid on at Melbourne for the Fijis, to call at Dunedjn, Lvttelton, Wellington, and Auckland on Ihe route. This will be of great service to us as bringing us into closer comuiunioa* tioa with Victoria.—i Sew Zaalaud Herald,
