The English Mail via Suez may be expected hereabout Saturday next.

Arrival. —A topsail schooner was standing off and on the port as we went to press this morning. The new searching .shed at the port is now in use—having been handed over to the Government on Monday last. Native Lands Court. —A sitting of the above is announced to be held in Napier on Friday (to morrow), 16th inst., and following days.

Napier Musical Society.—As may be seen by advertisement, the fourth concert of the above society will take place this evening in the Oddfellows' Hall.

The regular montbly inspection parade of the Napier Rifle Volunteers took place on Monday morning, and was fairly attended. One new member was admitted to the corps, Stuart & Co. will sell by auction at 2 P uu on Saturday next, September 17, at the Shamrock Sale Yards*, 4 draught horses, wool dray, harness, &c.; also, 10,000 totara shingle?, and 1000 totara wire posts.

Independent Order of RechabITESi —a "tent" of the above order was opened in Napier on the evenv ing of Tuesday last, by Mr M. Troy, who had received the necessary authority from Auckland. Eleven members were initiated, and the necessary officers appointed, Mr M, Troy being elected Chief Ruler; Mr W. Denholm, Deputy Ruler; Mr R. C. Harding, Secretary; and Mr J. McVay and Mr W. Burtton, Stewards. The new tent was named " The Hope of Napier/' and sundry other business was transacted. The next meeting of the tent will take place on the evening of Tuesdav, the 20th inst., when it is expected that the number of members will be somewhat augmented.
