Assault. —At the Resident Magistrate's Court, on Tuesday last, W. Hawker, brought up on a charge of assaulting Ellen Sloye, was bound over to keep the peace—himself in c£so, and two sureties of £25 each. We have had glorious weather during the last day or two. On Tuesday night there was a fall of rain—slight in Napier, but much heavier in the country. Yesterday, the weather sheet in the telegraph 'office denoted "blue sky' ? throughout all places south of Napier.

The Searching Shed which is being erected on what is still called the "new wharf" will, we believe, be completed this veek. Consignees of goods by the barque Albion are requested to pass entries and take delivery at once; otherwise all goods impeding the vessel's discharge will be passed for and'landed at consignees' risk and expense.

Man Missinj.—We are sorry to have to report that a respected fellowtownsman, Mr James Bruce, recently in the employ of Mr H. Williams, has been missing for some days past. Last Thursday he appears to have been travelling to Runanga on business for Messrs. Peacock and Co., at Taupo; and next day his horse was found riderless ; and though diligent search has been made, nothing, as far as we know, has been learnt of his fate, It seems only too probable that he has perished in the snow, the fall of which has been exceedingly heavy lately. However, we trust that such is not the case, but that we may shorty hear of his safety. The second number of Messrs. Fisher and Holloway's Commercial Circular appeared on Monday last. We observe that, in addition to its commercial matter, it contains an iexceedingly original non-commercial leading aitide, which mast be read to be appreciated.
