THE NEW REPRESENTATION BILL.
The new Representation Bill has given considerable dissatisfaction in many parts of the Colony. The Tiraaru Herald asks ; " How is that Taranaki, with only 4,800 people, and no wealth or trade to speak of, is to have three members, whilst Westland, with nearly times tho population, and certainly twenty times the wealth,is reduced to two members. Westland is to suffer for the sin of opposition evidently. And Southland, which contains no gold-fields, is to have a member taken away, whilst her population and industries have largely increased." The following table shows the number of representatives at present, and as proposed, together with the population ;
