The schooner Hero, Campbell, master, from Wairoa, arrived in port at noon yesterday. She left Wairoa on Tuesday evening, but, in consequence pf a southerly wind springing up, she had to run hack, leaving again on Friday night. The schooner Bee sailed for Lyttelton in ballast pn Friday last. The s.s. St. Kilda steamed for Poverty Bay on Friday last, and may be hourly expected to return. The ketch Why Not, with a general cargo for Wairoa, took her departure oh Saturday night. The cutter Greenwich has been laid up for the purpose of having a false keel put on. The schponor Brothers, from Wairoa, may be hourly expected to airive. We learn that the s.s. Lord Ashley, on her last trip from Wellington to Lyttelton, broke down when within 10 miles of the latter port. The brig Layard, 175 tons, Captain Worledge, from Newcastle, was wrecked at Timaru on the §th inst. She had a cargo of coal on board at the time of the accident. There seems to be some hope that part of both vessel and cargo may be recovered. They were sold by auction to the consignee, Capt. Cain, for £220. The schooner. Ruby, a well-known Wellington trader,. was totally wrecked at Kaikoura on the 10th inst. No lives were lost. The vessel was insured in the New Zealand Insurance Company.
