Luna from Auckland via the Coast on Tuesday, and took his seat with the other members in the Provincial Council yesterday afternoon. The following singular notice of motion was given on Tuesday last in the Provincial Council by the member for Waipukurau : That his Honor the Superintendent will be pleased to place on the Estimates a sullicient sum of money to enable the Provincial Engineer to place linger posts at all cross roads in the province, and lamps on the Great South lload to facilitate travelling by night without danger. Napier Garrick Club. —This; talented company gave a becond performance in the Oddfellows' Hall on Tuesday evening, to rather a poor house. The performance was unexceptionable, and it is a matter for regret that the efforts of a local society of this nature do not meet with more general appreciation. " A Subscriber," for whose letter we are unable to find space, writes to us complaining of the malicious freaks of certain individuals, who, during the night of Friday, the 27th, took a carriage from the side of Waghorn-street, and threw it into the lagoon on the opposite side of the road; besides erecting a barricade across the street with a number of empty casks taken from pri vate property, to the imminent danger of life and limb. Our correspon dent asks where the night watchman was at the time.
The cold southerly weather which we have had occasion to notice during the last week has passed away for the present, yesterday having been beautifully fine.
