The 8.8. Taranaki, Captain P. Holmes, arrived in the Ahuriri roadstead at 3 p.m. on Thursday last. She left Auckland at 3 p.m. on Saturday, 28th ult. with light N.W. winds aud thick murky weather. Rounded the East Cape at 9 a.m. on the 29th. At 3.30 p.m., was off Poverty Day, with heavy southerly gale setting in, which increased so much that at 6 p.m. was hove to. Ou Monday the weather having moderated somewhat, the sea still running high, proceeded on the voyago, and arrived in port as above. The Taranaki steamed for Wellington at 10.30 a.m. on Tuesday, and arrived at Wellington at 7.30 a.m. next day, after a good run of 21 hours.
The Colonial Government paddle steamer Luna, Captain Fairchild, left Auckland at 3 p.m. on the 21st May, arrived at Tauranga at 9 a.m. next dayLeft Tauranga on the evening af the 23rd, and called in at Maketu, Matata, Opotiki, Whakatane, Poverty Bay and several other places. Rounded the East Cape on the evening of the 28th, and arrived iu the Iron Pot at 3 p.m. ou the 31st. Mr D. M'Lean, Native and Defence Minister, Lieut. Porter, and several other gentlemen were passengers by the Luua. The N.Z.S.N. Co.'s s.s. Storm Bird, Capt, Doile, arrived in the roadstead at 8 p.m. on the 31st, and entered the Pot at 7.30 next morning, She left Wellington at 6 p.m. on the 30th, experienced fine weather throughout the passage, and arrived in Napier as above. The Storm I3ird cleared at the Customs for Wellington last evening, with 15 cases 6 casks tallow, and 36 bags grass seed, aud will, most probably, leave for Wellington about 7 o'clock this morning. The s.s. Star of the South, Captaiu Beudall, left Auckland on Saturday, the 2Gth May, at 4j.3op.rn. with light N.W. winds and cloudy weather, rounded the East Cape on Sunday at 4- p.m. with W,S,W. wind and fine weather; at Q. 30 p.m. off Tologa Bay, the wiud suddenly chopped rouud to the S.S.E., aud blew with terrific fury, attended with lightning, rain, and dark dismal weather; very heavy sea rising, bore np for the East Cape, scudding under close reefed topsail; on rouuding the Cape shipped same very hoavy seas; at noon on Monday the weather cleared np for a short time, when the East Cape was sighted j hauled up under lee ; of the land, and came-to in Kawakawa, remaining there until Tuesday morning at 8 o'clock, when the wind having somewhat abated, proceeded on the voyage; on rounding the Cape met a heavy head sea and strong head wind to Gable End foreland, which was passed at 8 p.m. same day. Erom thence to Napier moderate winds. Bounded Portland Island at 5 a.m. on Wednesday arrived in the rqads at 10 a.ra. and entered the Pot at 5 o'clock same evening. Cargo: 1 flax machine, ?uid 25 tons general, The .Star, as may be seen by advertisement, will steam for Auckland direct to-morrow morning at 9 o'clock. The schooner Saucy Lass, M'Gregor, master, left this port for Auckland via the coast, on Tuesday last.
The p,s. Coraerang, Captain Chrisp, took her departure for Auckland via the Thames with 52 head cattle and 55Q sheep, The schooner Hero, Campbell, master, left for Wairoa at a late hour last night. The brig Maggie, Captain Arnold, may he expected to leave for Newcastle, N.S.W., about Saturday next. The ketch Aparima, Spence, master, sailed for HaYelock, in ballast, yesterday morning. The schooner Colleen Bawn, Captain Thompson, will leave for Wellington in a few days. The s.s. St. Kilda, Captain sox, is lying alongside, the Western Spit,
