Shipping Telegrams.—By a notice in our advertising columns it will be seen that on and after the Ist prox. the arrivals and departures of sailing vessels to and from the different ports of the Colony will not be posted up in the telegraph office, and that the interprovincial steamers will only be reported to those ports for which they are immediately bound, and, on arrival, only to the ports from which they have immediately come. The Australian steam era auo those carrying the English mail will be reported as hitherto. A lteration of Telegraph Charges—We have much pleasure in directing attention to an advertisement in another column, notifying a considerable reduction in the rate of the charges hitherto made for the I transmission of telegrams. Ordinary telegrams from any station to any station will in future be charged Is for the first 10 wprds, and for every additional 5 words, 6d , press telegrams, 6d for the first 10 words, and od for every additional 15 words. No charge will in future be made for signatures. This alteration is one which has been much needed, and will, we are confident, cause the telegraph to much more generally used than it has been hitherto^
A kangaroo and wattle—both young ones- -were brought down from Hobart Town by the Maggie on Thursday last. The Leotard Troupe are to perform to-night and to-morrow night at Waipawa.; on Wednesday at Havelock; and on Thursday at Meanee. The acrobatic feats of the Leotard Brothers, and the singing of Mr H. Morgan have ensured for them an Australian reputation, and we hope that on this and ensuing evenings our country friends will reward them with what they so well merit—a full house.
Steady Rain set in on Thursday morning last, and continued in intermittent showers until Friday night, since which time the weather has been beautifully fine. The fall of rain, though no g great, will prove of benefit to the whole country.
