The Colonial Government gun-boat Start, Capt. Fairchild, left Napier at 11 a.m. on the 9th inst., and arrived at Wairoa at 4 p.m.; landed despatches, and left again at once; put into Long Point for shelter throughout the night; weighed anchor at 6 a.m. on the 13th, and arrived at Poverty Bay at 2 p.m. the same day; landed the Bishop of Waiapu, and left at 1 p.m. on the 14th; called in at Wangawehi at 6 p.m. on the 14th ; left again at 8 p.m., rounded Portland Island at midnight, and arrived in port at 8 a.m. on the 15th (Tuesday last.) ! The schooner Kauri, Capt. Sheppard, left Auckland on the 9th inst., with S.S.W. winds ; called in at Tryphena on the 10th, and left again on the evening of the 11th, with N.N.E. wind ; passed Cape Runaway at noon on the 12th ; saw the schooner Tawera lying at anchor off Waiapu; on the evening of the 12th experienced a strong gale from the southward, which carried away her jibboom and split her fore-staysail—a heavy sea running at the time, and the vessel shipping a greatdeal of water ; at daylight on the 14th the weather moderated; rounded Portland Island at 9.30 a.m. on the 14th, with light northerly wind, and made the anchorage in Ahuriri roadstead at 9 o'clock the same night. The Kauri, as will be. seen by advertisement, leaves for Wellington direct on Saturday next. The s.s. Wellington, Captain Holmes, left Port Chalmers at 2 p.m. on the 11th inst. j arrived at Lyttelton at 9.30 a.m. on the 12th, and left at 4.30 p.m. the same day; arrived at Wellington at 7.45 p.m. on the 13th, and left at 6 p.m. on the 14th, bringing up in Ahuriri roads at 3 p.m. on, the 15th. Prom Otago heads to Banks' Peninsula experienced light S.E. wind; from thence, to Lyttelton thick weather with rain; and from thence to Hawke's Bay light winds and fine weather. The Wellington steamed northwards at noon yesterday x witli the outward English Mails via Suez and Marseilles. The s.s. Star of the South, Capt. Bendall, from. Auckland, arrived in port at an early hour- this morning. The ketch Wild. Duck left for Poverty Bay on. Monday last, with cargo as leported in our last issue. The s.s. Hangatira steamed for Wellington at 3 p.m. on Monday last, with 157 bales wool, 82 bales flax, 26 bales tow, and 23 casks tallow ; also several passengers. The Rangatira proceeds to Dunedin this trip to receive a thorough overhaul, of which she stands in much need. The schooner Saucy Lass sailed for Auckland via the coast yesterday, with 66 bags barley and 5 gallons rum. The schooner Muriwai, with wool and apples, may be hourly expected to, arrive from Poverty
