TELEGRAPHIC. Thk siiip England left Lyttelton for London at 5 p.m. on the 20th instant. The London Times gives a very full and detailed account of her Majesty's new turret ship Devastation, which is to be a model of the first rate of the. future. She will have two turrets, and each turret will be mounted with 2-30 guns, throwing shot 6001 b weight. Her tonnage will be only of 4,400 tons burden; whereas the tonnage of the Warrior and Minotaur class exceeds G.OOO. Again," the Warrior cost at least £360,000, while the Devastation is to cost £290,000. The Achilles cost nearly £450,000. Another economy is effected in the number of men, as there will be no work aloft in these new ships. A mew of 250, all told, will suffice, instead of 656, for the working of the vessel. Mere thickness does not represent true increase of strength obtained, and the sides of the Devastation will, as far as can at present be presumed, be impervious to the shot of an enemy.
