AUCKLAND LIYE STOCK MARKET. [MR ALFRED BUCKLAND.] January 15. At the Haymarlcet, on Saturday last, draught horses were of less value. Many were sold at prices varying between £l6 and £2O. A very choice light-harness horse brought £27; inferior and aged horses, from 40s. Pressed lucerne hay dull of sale, at £6. At Remuera, on Thursday, best dairy cows brought £ls 10s; inferior animals, from £9; young store cattle and dry cows were in request at improved prices; grown steers were lower, three-year-olds bringing from £7 15s. Eat cattle were in much larger numbers than usual—l 23 head sold, but there was a full attedance of the trade, and last week's advanpe in prices was attained. Large-sized cattle brought from 32s 6d to 355, and small-sized from 35s to 38s the 100 libs.
Fat sheep of good quality were more plentiful than for several markets; prices were from Is to 2s per head lower than last week, but, with the exception of one pen, all were sold. Lambs were !in full supply, and without alteration in value. 'Fat pigs were not so plentiful as usual, but were of good quality, and unless of large size, met with a steady sale at full rates. [CAREY, GILLES, AND HJJNTER.] A large number of horses are being brought forward, which meet with ready sale. On Saturday an unusually large number were offered at auction, and on the whole, prices were satisfactory to vendors. Good upstanding hacks would sell freely ; also draught stock of a good stamp; but weedy and inferior stock are difficult to move off. The generality of the horses sold realized fair figures. We sold riding horses from £7 to £lO 7s 6d; light draught, from £ls to £l6 10s; heavy draught, from £36. The stock market has been tolerably active during the last week, and prices for most descriptions of stock remains firm. The dairy cows offered were mostly of inferior stamp, and store and young stock were scarcely equal to requirements. A large number of fat beasts were penned. Provincials were scarcely in sufficiently good order, while the bullocks ex Island City were in prime condition; in fact, we have not seen anything from Australia equal to them; but the weather being so hot, the trade were indisposed to give extreme prices for the.heavy weight, while small animals sold freely. Sheep were plentiful, and' a large number were disposed of, and sustained last week's prices, good quality selling relatively higher. Pigs: The supply was inadequate. Dairy, cows, from £lO 12s 6d to £l3 17s 6d ; two-year-old steers, from £6 2s 6d to £6 17s 6d ; three-year-old steers, £8 to £9 ss; beef, from 32s to to 36s per lOOrbs. Sheep : Half-breds, from 13s to 21s 6d ; merinos, from 9s 6d to 15s 9d ; lambs, from 8s 6d to 14s each.
