THE AMOUNT OF WATER ON THE BAR. —A CORRECTION.
TO THE EDITOR OJ THE HAWKE'S BAY TIMES,
Sir, —Tn the last issue of the Herald it is reported that Capt. Doile found 10 feet of water on the bar at dead low water. This i* not the case. I myself brought in the Storm Bird, and found, at quarter flood, 10 feet; so that, at dead low water, there would only be 8 feet on the bar, and at low water slack there would be 9 feet 6 inches I also found, in taking the Storm Bird out yesterday, 11 feet 6 ia&lies at the top of high water. Mistakes oftentimes arise from not properly understanding the difference between low water and low water slack. ] may take this opportunity of intimating to the Herald's informant—who, I And, is not the regular reporter—that I always make a practice of sounding on every possible occasion.—l remain, &c, H. Kraeft, Pilot and Harbor-master, Dec. 30, 1869.
