Arrival of the schooner Hero. The schooner Hero, Campbell, master, left Napier on the 15th inst, about 9 a.m., in tow of the p.s. Start; arrived at Wairoa about 2 p.m. Left again on the return trip at 6.30 a.m. yesterday ; had N.E. wind throughout, and arrived here at noon. In consequeuce of the heavy sea in the Lay, her progress, from the time she came in sight, was watched with some interest by a number of people. She brings the following cargo : 17 bales wool, Richardson; 50 bushels maize, Robjohns Bros. Also, 3 passengers.

Miscellaneous. Heavy north-easterly weather, accompanied with some rain, has prevailed for some days, causing a high confused sea in the Bay. The barque 11. T. Turnbull, we are happy to say, rides it out bravely. As we go to press this morning, the wind has abated, and the sea has gone down, but a drizzling rain is falling. The buoy on the Auckland Rock, oif Ahuriri Bluff, parted cable on Saturday night, and drifted towards the mouth of the harbor. It, was picked up inside the bar at 3 o'clock .yesterday morning by Mr Pilot Kraeft and his crew, by whom its movements had been observed for some hours. The buoy (which is covered with mussels) had about 4 fathoms of chain attached to it when found.

The p.s. Sturt, hence on "Wednesday last, arrived at Wairoa the same afternoon ; and nest day proceeded up the river as far as Turiroa with Mr St. John Branigan. The same night she left Wairoa for Turanga By the arrival of the schooner Hero we learn that the s.s. Star of the South was oif Witakamahia yesterday morning. There was a quantity of wool on the beach ready for shipment. The New Zealand Steam Navigation Company's s.s. Wellington, Capt. Holmes, has not yet arrived here from Auckland, but will probably make her appearance during the course of the day; although, it is quite possible that she may have gone on to Wellington. The schooner Three Brothers has b.'cn taking in cargo during tin last day or two, and will have quick despatch for Wairoa. The schooner Tawera, for Poverty Bay, remains in the Iron Pot, windbound. The ship Me.'ita, from London, arrived at Wellington on the 15th inst., having made the passage in 113 days.

The ts.s. Tararua, from Melbourne, arrived at the Bluff early ou the 17th iust. By telegram we learn that 11.M.5.5. Rosario has again been despatched to Tauranga—no doubt in consequence of the late threatening news from that district. She left Wellington on the 15th inst. (Wednesday last.)
