Left again on the 6th inst., and had light S.W. wind till abreast of Flat Point, which was made on the Bth. Recovery of the Government Moorings,

Our readers will be pleased to learn that, by dint of patience and perseverance, Captain Fairchild, ably assisted by Mr Pilot Kraeft, succeded, on Monday last, in recovering the Government moorings lost during a heavy N.E. gale in February last; and have thus saved the Province the outlay of some £4OO or £SOO for new moorings. The ship Ida Zeigler's cable was also recovered on the same occasion. Miscellaneous. The New Zealand Steam Navigation Company's s.s. Wellington, Capt. Holmes, may be expected to arrive from Auckland on or about Saturday next, 18th inst., and will meet with quick despatch for Wellington and Southern Ports. The Colonial Government gun-boat Sturt, Capt. Fairchild, left port yesterday morning for Wairoa, Turanga, and Tauranga. The schooner Hero, with a full cargo for Wairoa, took her departure yesterday morning, in tow of t'.e p.s. Sturt. The s.s. Star of the South, with a cargo of stores, consigned to Messrs. Burton and Tait Bros., leftport last evening for Whakaki. She will, we believe, return to Napier with a cargo of wool. The barque Jennie Ellingwood commenced shipping wool at an early hour yesterday morning.

We are glad to be able to state that Captain Fletcher is fast recovering from his illness which we reported a few days ago, and that he will resume command of the schooner Success on her arrival in port from Waimarama.
