Hawke's Bay Times. Nullius addictus jurare in verba magistri. MONDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 1869. THE KAIMANAWA RANGES.
We learn that a communication has been received from the Kaimanawa Range, giving information that the Wanganui party (of 17 we believe) had arrived on the ground and commenced the work of prospecting; but we have no news of progress to report. Still, the indications are favorable, and with better weather for the prosecution of the search, we hope a few days will suffice to settle the question of payable gold at these ranges.
By .advertisement elsewhere it will be seen that a meeting of the Shareholders of the Provident Land, Building, and Investment Society will be held on Wednesday next. Napier Debating Club.—The next meeting of this society, it will be seen by advertisement, takes place on Thins ay evening next, in the room adjoining the Oddfellows' Hall. The English Mail.—We have been kindly informed by the Chief Postmaster that he received a telegram from Wellington on Saturday, announcing that the letter portion of the English Mail for Hawke's Bay had been forwarded overland on that morning. It may be expected to arrive in Napier on, Wednesday afternoon next,
A. CORRESPONDENT Suggests that! to-morrow, being the Prince of Wales's birthday, should be observed as a public holiday, in order that the Napier Brays Band might on that day give the picnic unavoidably postponed from the Ist November.
Breach of Licensing Ordinance. —On Wednesday last, in the Resident Magistrate's Court, Samuel Jew was fine/1 £SO and costs for selling three bottles of rtim without a license to a man named Joseph Johnston at
Pohui. The Supreme Court. —In a Provincial Government Gazette, issued on Thursday last, we observe a notice that the adjourned circuit sittings of the Supreme Court for the despatch of civil and criminal business will be held on Thursday, 18th Nov.; the minor and bankruptcy sittings on Monday, the 22nd; and in banco on Tuesday, the 23rd.

We would recommend all who have not yet seen Mr Bachelder's diorama, to go to the Oddfellows' Hall to-night.
