Great floods have occurred at Ballarat, Clunes, and Talbot; the property destroyed is estimated at £60,000 ; many valuable claims have been inundated. Ten men were submerged in the Grand Junction Claim for two days, but rescued. Rain fell all over the Colony for fortyeight consecutive hours. Cleland'g racing mare Shenandoah is dead. Jenner repi'esents the Ministry in the Legislative Council. The Great Britain, from Liverpool, arrived on the 13th, 62 days out. The Victoria Tower, 85 days out from Liverpool, was wrecked at Bream Creek on the night of the L6th j passengers and orew saved. Flour was £ls 10s to £l6 j wheat, 7s 3d j oats, dull of sale, at 5s 3d j maize, 43 lid. ■ Sydney, October 19. Government prevented Orange and Fenian demonstrations at Clontarf. Government proposes to repeal newspaper postage. Palmer is convicted of the murder of Halligan, the gold-buyer, and sentence of death was passed.
