Hawke's Bay Times. Nullius addictus jurare in verba magistri. MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 1869.
ELECTION OF SUPERINTENDENT. Sjnce our last issue the Provincial Council has met, and the important duty of electing a Superintendent has been performed,—-the choice of the Council having fallen upon J. J), Ormond, Esq., the agent for the General Government in this Province ; and, as it would appear, mainly because he holds that office. It is a singular fact that the election seems to have .aken place, or, rather to have been decided on, out of the Counoil —so much so that our contemporary was able to announce with confidence on the morning of the day thai such would be the case, a fact which was mentioned in Council by one of the members, A report of the proceedings of the day, as well as the address referred to, will be found in another place. All appeared to go off harmoniously, and we trust that +he important matters to be discussed and decided by the Council under its new chief officer will be treated in a manner most conducive to the public good.
