A coloeed man in Quincy, Illinois, bai brought a suit to recover $2,000 from a steamer company for having been refused the privilege of eating dinner with th» white folks. John Hayes, owner and master of tha cutter Petrel, of Russel, Bay of Island*, has been fined £9O and costs for selling liquor to natives, and for a breach of the Licensing Act.
