Arrival of the cutter Planet. The cutter Planet, D. Bain, master, from Dunedin, witli a cargo of oats, consigned to Mr. J. 11. Vautier, arrived in port on Friday morning last. She left Dunedin at 11 a.m. on the 3lst August, with light southerly wind ; rounded Banks' Peninsula on the 3rd Sept.; and on the sth had strong N.W. wind with heavy sea running. On the 6th the wind was S.S.W., squally, with rain; was off Cape Palliscr the same night; from thence, N.W. wind till off Flat Point on Tuesday ; was abreast of Cape Turnagaiu on Wednesday—wind N.N.K., light. From thence, had light northerly wind till arrival in port at 9 a.m. on Friday last. "We iiave to thank Captain Bain for an Otago Daily Times of the 31st August, extracts from j which will be found elsewhere. Arrival of the s.s. Wellington. The s.s. Wellington, Capt. Holmes, arrived in harbor at 12.30 p.m. yesterday, having the English Mail on board. She "left Port Chalmers at o p.m. on the Bth inst., and arrived at Lytteiton at 10 a.m. on the 9th ; left again the same day at 7 p.m., and arrived at Wellington at 12.30 p.m. on the 10th ; left again at 5.10 p.m. on the 11th, and arrived here as above, having made the run in 19 hours and 20 minutes. Experienced fine weather and smooth water from Port Chalmers to Cape Campbell ; from thence to Wellington fresh N.W. wind ; and strong southerly wind from Wellington to the Ahnriri roadstead.
Mr Moss, the purser, with his usual courtesy, handed us full files on arrival. We regret being unable yesterday to obtain a list of the Wellington's cargo and passengers —the latter principally immigrants per ship flalcione, from London. The Wellington steams for Auckland this day, but we have not heard at what hour.
Departure of the ship K. T. Turnbull from London for Napier. By the mail to hand yesterday we have intelligence of the departure of the ship K. T. Turnbull from London for Napier. She left on the 3rd of July, and is consequently now 71 days at sea. The Turnbull has been despatched by Messrs. Shaw, Saville & Co., and has on board a large general cargo for this port. Miscellaneous. The ship Undaunted sailed for Callao in ballast on Thursday night last. The s.s. Tararna, Captain Hngley, arrived at the Bluff at 1 a.m. on the 29th ult., from Melbourne. This spleudid vessel, on this trip, has eclipsed all her previous passages from Melbourne to the Bluff, having accomplished the distance (allowing for difference of time) in the short space of 4 days 8 hours and 15 minutes. The Unittd States war steamer Kearsage, from Sydney, arrived at Wellington at 3 p.m. on Wednesday last, Bth inst.; and left for Callao at 1.30 on Friday, 10th inst. Her Majesty's s.s. Rosario left Wellington at 3.40 p.m. on Wednesday, Bth inst., for the East Coast.
The ship William Davie (one of Messrs. Henderson and Co.'s line of monthly packets), arrived at Port Chalmers at 8.40 p.m. on Thursday, 9th inst., after a splendid passage of 98 days from Glasgow. The William Davie has on board a quantity of cargo for this port. The barque Abdul Medjid, 117 days from London, arrived at Nelson at 10 a.m. on Saturday last, 11th September. According to the Evening Post the Wellington wharf on the 30th August presented an unusual aspect of desolation. With the exception of the Beautiful Star, about to start for the South, and two coasters waiting a wind to sail, not a single vessel of any description was to be seen alongside. Advices have been received that the A.S.N. Co's s.s. Rangatira, Captain Grainger, has been laid on for Wellington, Lyttelton, and Otago, and would leave Sydney about the 20th August, if sufficient inducement offered.
