Arms Act Indictments.—Joseph Moliere Tabuteau, Collector of Customs, has been appointed to lay and prefer Informations and Indictments against Europeans and aboriginal Natives for offences under "The Arms Act, 1860," "The Arms Act Continuance Act, 1861," and "The Arms Act Continuance and Amendment Act, 1866."
Press Telegrams.—An error in the Government Gazette has, we see, led several of our contemporaries astray, and the statement has been pretry generally circulated that, after the first ten words of a press celegram each additions I fifty words would be charged 6d. The correct reading is that given in this journal of the 19th inst.—for the first ten words, is 6d, and for each succeeding ten, or lesser number than ten, 6d. The error was corrected in a subsequent issue of the Gazette.
Steam Subsidies.— By the Parliamentary reports which appear in the Wellington papers we observe that the present steam subsidies will not be renewed after the expiration of the existing contracts. This was effected by Mr Macandrew, whose resolution to that effect was carried by 32 to 13 yotes. That gentleman moved a second resolution, with the intention of providing a substitute in a subsidised service via San Francisco, which was also carried; but as the Colonial Treasurer said, it may be looked on as an abstract resolution, since another session will ha\e opened before any anangemeiit can possibly be mac^e,
