Sericulture.—The Nelson Examiner, 18th August, says that "by the late mail from England Mr Batchelor received a letter from Mr John Morrison, acknowledging the safe arrival of the box of cocoons sent home by the steamer Ruahine, in the case of J. R. Dodson, Esq. Mr Morrison promises to bring the cocoons under the notice of persons interested in the silk trade, as well as the association recently formed in Londou for encouaraging the growth of silk, and to send full particulars at an early opportunity. We are glad to find that Mr Batchelor is not relaxing in his effort to promote the culture of silk in Nelson."

The Honc-karium.- Economy seems the order of the day with the Government. Mr Ormond, one of their principal supporters, has given notice to uiovj— ''That this House will, on Wednesday, August 25, resolve itself into Committee of tho whole House, to consider of the motion—That the honorarium to be paid to the General Assembly in future sessions shall not exceed the sum of fifty pounds to each member in any one session; provided that if any session shall not exceed fifty days, that the sum to be paid to each member shall be thirty pounds." This is an economy which will commend itself favorably to the public, most of whom have been long con vinced that a reform in regard to the honorarium was urgently required.— Evening Post, August 23.
