A meeting of those interested in the Waipukurau Circulating Library takes place in the Waipukurau school-room on the evening of "Wednesday next.

An Unfounded Report.— A vague rumor was current this morning of an engagement having taken place on the coast; but on making inquiries of the proper authorities we find it is without foundation. Electric Telegraph Commissioner.—The Hon. Julius Yogel has received the appointment of Electric Telegraphic Commissioner for the Colony of New Zealand—to date from Ist July, 1869. The Weather has undergone a decided change since our last issue. On Saturday, the wind, which had been blowing steadily from the N.E , suddenly chopped round to the southwaid, and has been veering from that quarter to S.E. and S.W. ever since, with thick weather and at times heavy rain. As we go to press there are no indications of line weather. Napier Brass Band.—We would remind the public that the anniversary ball of the Napier Brass Band takes place on the evening ot Wednesday next, in the Odd Fellows' Hall. The gratuitous services of the Band on several occasions, such as the dinner to the 18th Regiment, entitles that local institution to public support, and we trust that the present praiseworthy effort to get up a little amusement will be duly appreciated.
