Boat Accident and Loss of Life at Poverty Bay.—By the s.s. St. Kilda, which arrived on Tuesday night we have intelligence of a fatal boat accident which occurred ao Poverty Bay on Monday last. It appears that on the day in question a whale-boat, in which were 20 natives, was coming off to the St. Kilda, when a heavy sea broke over the boat, and filled it—the result of which was that two of the natives met with a watery grave. The steamer's boat was close behind, and. succeeded in picking up the crew ol the capsized boat. Had it noo been for this circumstance, the probability is that the loss of life would have beep, much greater, as the sea in the Bay was the heaviest in the memory of the " oldest inhabitant," The survivors were taken on board the St. Kilda, and their wants attended j to. In a very short time they re- j covered, and seemed none the worse j for their ducking.
