Arrival of the s.s. St. Kilda. The Colonial Government gun-boat St. Kilda, Captain G. Fox, left Auckland at midnight on Thursday last, 19th inst., and arrived at Tauranga at 6 p.m. on Friday; discharged stores, and started next day for Poverty Bay. Arrived at Turanganui at 5 p.m. on Sunday. At 4 a.m. on Monday went down the coast as far as Mahia (St. Patrick's Cove) with some of llenare Potae's men who were garrisoning Turanganui; returned again the same evening. Left for '.Napier at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, and arrived in the roadstead at midnight. Arrival of the schooner Colonist. The fine clipper schooner Colonist, Captain WJones, from the Bay of Islands with GO tons of coal, consigned to Mr C. li. Weber, arrived in port on Monday evening last. She left Auckland on the 7th inst. for the Bay, arrived at Russell at 5 p.m. on the 9th inst.; took in cargo, and left for Napier at 8 p.m. on the 15th, with the wind from N.W. Rounded the East Cape on the 17th at 6 a.m. Landed cargo at Waipu, Waipero, and Poverty Bay, arriving at the latter place at 7 a.m. on the 19th. Left Turanganui at 8 p.m. the same day. When abreast of Portland Island the wind changed to the southward, blowinir hard, with thick weather and squalls of rain ; bore up for Wangawehi (Happy Jack's), where she anchored at 10 p.m. on the 21st. Left for Napier at 8 p.m. on the 22nd, and had light S. winds and calms, and arrived here at 8 p.m. on Monday last, 23rd instant. The Colonist is h fine new schooner of some 43 tons register, and was built by Sims, Brown and Co., of the North Shore, Auckland. She is a (comparatively new vessel—having been launched in December of last year—and is said to be a good sea-boat, as well as a fast sailer. The Colonist leaves for Auckland via Poverty Bay to-morrow (Friday) ; and we trust that sufficient inducement will be offered to make this fine yessel a regular trader to this port. Arrival of the schooner Saucy Lass. The schooner Saucy Lass, Captain M'Gregor, left Auckland on 3rd August, and arrived at Wangarei on the 6th ; left again on the 11th, and arrived at Mercury Bay on the 12th, and left for i\apier on the 17th ; rounded the East Cape on the 18th; had light baffling wind until the 19th, when a strong southerly wind compelled her to sei'k shelter in Honyiua. Left again on the 22nd ; had light winds and calms until arrival in port at 8 o'clock on Tuesday night. The Saucy Lass brought a cargo of shingles and sawn timber, on discharge of which she will leave for Auckland. Arrival of the p.s. Sturt, The p.s. Sturt, Captain Fairchild, left Napier at 4.30 p.m. on the 23rd inst., and arrived at Poverty Bay at 7 a.m. on the 24th ; left again at 8.40 a.m. for Waipu, where she arrived at 5.59 p.m.; landed 24 men and 15 women ; and left for Poverty Bay at G.lO p.m.; arrived there at 3.30 a.m. on the 25th (yesterday) ; left for N'lpier at 5.45 a.m.; passed between Portland Island and the mainland ; and arrived here at 5.15 p.m. The-Sturt brought the following passengers : Sub-Inspector Porter, Mrs Read, 2 men of the Armed Constabulary, 1 woman, 1 child, and three Maoris. Miscellaneous. The s.s. Phoebe may be expected to arrive here to-morrow morning, from Wellington, and will steam for Auckland shortly after arrival.
The s,s. Lord Ashley, hence on Monday, arrived at Wellington at 2.30 p in. on Tuesday. IJ.M.S. Challenger left Wellington for Sydney at 3.15 p.m. on Monday. The Robert ltitson, from Liverpool, arrived at Port Chalmers at 2.15 p.m. yesterday, having been four months on the passage. , The brig Maggie left Sydney for Napier on the 11th insfc.j with a full general cargo.
