That portion of the Estimates re« lating to the class Law and Jusli CQ was passed.
It is generally expected that tho Session will soon close.
The new s.s. Maori, 176 tons which is intended for the Lyttelton and Dunedin trade, arrived from Melbourne at Port Chalmers at 610 p,m. on the 15th inst., after a fine passage of five days. The ss. Omeo, from Melbourne arrived at the Bluff at 9.30 a.m. on the 16th inst. She brings Australian dates to the 9th inst.
Fre>h revelations had been mad© regarding the corrupt practices of certain Members of the Legislative Assembly of Victoria, in connection with the administration of the Land Act, and improper manipulation of the Crown Lands Department.. Charges of this character, brought against Mr. Win. Eraser, M.L.A. for Creswick, and Mr Wm, Stutt, M.L.A., (former 1 }- proprietor of the City Buffet and Restaurant, Great Bourke-street,) are considered to be fully proved; but the decision of the Government on these cases has not been divulged, and it is not certain 'what course the Assembly will parsue with regard to the offending Members: they will probably be expelled.
The Victorian Government are prosecuting the man Kinnealey, ona of the released Fenian prisoners, who recently landed in Melbourne, from Perth, Western Australia. The Crown Law Officers are proceeding against him under the provisions of the Convicts Influx Prevention Act, charging him with being illegally at large in the colony of Victoria. His case is warmly discussed in the newspapers.
It U reported from Melbourne that Major-General Chute's, prompt compliance with Dr. Featherston's request for the detention of the 2nd Battalion of the 18 th Royal Irian for garrison duty in New Zealand, was much approved by the Yictorian public. A large diamond, said to weigh half-a-pound, has been found at Armidale, New South Wales. American news,via Sydney, states that the Cuban Filibustering Expe dit-ion has failed. The cholera was. raging in Cuba; 2,000 soldiers having died from the disease. The insurrection has been totally quelled.
