Tite Victorian Government have given the police permission to wear beards. An Interesting- Piscovkky.—A few days ago on lowering the floor of a house at Abernethy,: there was found, a foot below the surfaee, a jar containing about 4JO coins, mostly of the reign of Queen Alary of (Scotland. Those of her reign have a St. Andrew's Cross on the centre, with a rose on each side, with the inscription "Oppidum Edinburgh." On the reverst side there is a thistle supporting a crown,' with the letters '• M. it." on the side oi the thistle,.and the inscription "Maria, D. E. B. Scotorum." These are all cliietly of silver. There are several dated 1561, with mottoes such as " Vicit Veritas;" and there are a considerable number with a monogram of " F. M." having the arms of France and Scotland combined with the fleu-de-lis and thistle on each side of the shield. The jar was of course earthenware, and was covered with a square piece if tile. About IUO yea«-s ago a large quantity of coius were found in the eatue ground.
