Treacle. —Treacle has been made from the sugar-beet by IVIr Grayling of Manga* rei, Taranaki. From 100 lbs a little over lbs of treacle was obtained. The Times of the sth iust. thus refers to it; —“ A shuck, or rather u couple of shocks, of earthquake occurred here early yesterday morning, a little alter two o’clock. There was first a j >it, followed shortly after by a strong vibratory moiion, proceeding from southwest to north-east, and lasting abou halfa minute.” The shock is not mentioned in the Auckland papers as having been felt in that city.
