The fire "broke u l; in Levy's Oyster Saloon, took fill's Rising Sun; Meiferstein's, ironmonger; Moss, stationer; Kainace tailor; Casill, confectioner; jfansar's Southland Hotel; Webb, fruiterer (two establishments); Goldstein, clothier; Oriental Hotel; Osborne, watchmaker; Johnston, ironmonger; Honore, ironmonger; Tilbrook, printer; Scott, dentist; — l0SS) £30,000. Immense damage was done by re m oval of stock. The wind at the time was happily light, and chopped favorably to allow both sides to be (iubilued. The cause of the fire is unknown, but it is believed to have originated in a foul chimney. Oassin i;> the heaviest loser; the whole of his property was destroyed ; it was worth j£3,000, and was not insured. The lire is now all out; it burnt for two hoars No lives were lost, but three people were injured by the falling of houses ; one Mr Gaune, a grocer, was seriously hurt, but is now out of danger.
