THE WITHDRAWAL FROM WAIKARI. MOANA.
Much insecurity is now f«lt by the out-settlers of the Province, many of whom are convinced that the late withdiawal of the forces from Lake Waikarimoana, without an effort to strike a blow after so extensive pre. parations had been made, will be in. terpreted by the natives as a defeat on our part. There is good reason +o be]ie\e that it will go far to annul the effect of Colonel Whitinore's suecesses, and reinspire the rebels with some of that courage which they had lost. Well-informed settlers say that the new Ministry have taken a step thai will in all probability bring the rebels almost to our doors.
